Release notes for PSP/FIELDS data release 23.1

Data release 22.1 updates the DFB Digital Burst Memory AC-coupled voltage measurements (dfb_dbm_vac) from Version 2 (v02) to Version 3 (v03).

The waveforms stored in all DFB DBM files have gain and phase corrections applied, to calibrate the Level 2 data based on the analog and digital response of the DFB receiver.

In Version 2 of the dfb_dbm_vac files, the low-frequency part of the analog gain response was not correctly defined, resulting in an inaccurate response in the corrected waveforms. This effect is particularly apparent for waveforms with sudden sharp changes in voltage, such as those caused by dust impacts. An example section of a dfb_dbm_vac waveform is shown below, with a sharp change due to an impact. The large voltage response before the impact in the Version 2 waveform is due to the incorrect low-frequency response applied during the calibration.

We note that this correction applies only to the AC-coupled single-ended burst waveforms dfb_dbm_vac, not the AC-coupled differential burst waveforms (dfb_dbm_dvac), the DC-coupled burst waveforms (dfb_dbm_vdc, dfb_dbm_dvdc), or the search coil burst waveforms (dfb_dbm_scm).
